Manhattan Funeral for Cronkite
Associated PressThu, July 23, 2009
The funeral service was held at St. Bartholomew's Church in midtown Manhattan, attracting scores of people touched by the life of the beloved CBS newsman. Among those sending flowers and wishes was Yoko Ono, who wrote that she and her son Sean would always remember Cronkite for his "kind word" to them. Announced speakers included "60 Minutes" commentator Andy Rooney and Cronkite's son Chip.
Cronkite, known as "the most trusted man in America," anchored "The CBS Evening News" from 1962 until 1981. He died last Friday at his Manhattan home at age 92.
