Impeachment Committee Makes No Decision on Sanford
Mon, December 07, 2009
COLUMBIA — A committee considering the impeachment of Gov. Mark Sanford has adjourned for the day without making a decision.
The seven-member panel plans to meet again Wednesday. It eventually will send a recommendation to the House Judiciary Committee on whether Sanford should be removed from office. That would require a two-thirds vote of the House and the Senate.
Today's session focused on a taxpayer-funded trip where Sanford said his relationship with an Argentine woman turned physical.
Sanford's office and state Commerce Department officials have said the 2008 trip was for legitimate state business. The trip included stops in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Brazil.
Chester Rep. Greg Delleney says he thinks the economic development mission was thrown into the trip as a cover.
