House Democrats Prepare to Unveil Health Bill
Wed, October 28, 2009
WASHINGTON — House Democrats have all but finalized a sweeping health care bill that would reshape the medical system, requiring nearly everyone to purchase coverage and creating a new government insurance plan for the middle class.
Lawmakers and congressional aides said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was making plans to unveil that chamber's bill on Thursday morning, contingent on the outcome of a meeting Wednesday among House leaders.
The rollout would cap months of arduous negotiations to bridge differences between liberal and moderate Democrats and blend health care overhaul bills passed by three separate committees over the summer.
