Delay for SC Panel Seeking Answers on Sanford
Sat, December 05, 2009
COLUMBIA — South Carolina lawmakers mulling impeachment of Gov. Mark Sanford will have to wait until Monday for information from state officials.
The House subcommittee investigating Sanford has submitted questions to the governor's office, Commerce Department and state police. Responses were due Friday, but a committee attorney says they won't be released until Monday.
Lawmakers want more information about how Sanford communicated with his office during a five-day absence in June. Sanford shocked the state when he returned, revealing a yearlong affair with a woman in Argentina.
The panel has been debating ethics charges against the governor. Chairman Jim Harrison says the panel could decide Monday if it will send an impeachment resolution to the full Judiciary Committee.
