BMW Offers Buyout Package to Workers

The Greenville News reported Thursday that the offers are part of the automaker's plan to cut its work force by about 8,000 worldwide. The company has more than 100,000 employees. It has not set a target number for the buyouts.

BMW Manufacturing Co. spokesman Bobby Hitt says 3,000 workers at the Greer plant were eligible for the separation package. About 5,000 people work at the plant.  The company had said early last year it would add about 500 jobs in Greer as part of the $750 million expansion, originally targeted to be completed in about four years.
